Marketing: Spitalfields and Brick Lane

Delicious banana cake from a stall in Spitalfields Market.

I woke up (relatively) early today and headed to East London to visit a few fabulous markets. London has tons of little markets all over the city, and they are a must if you’re coming for a visit. And definitely do go on a Sunday! Continue reading

Nom Nom Nom: Alounak and Tas

Tuesday evening, I made the short walk to the Bayswater area to enjoy a meal at Alounak (no website that I could find) with a few friends. We went to our destination, a Persian restaurant, at the recommendation of my friend Raj, who will probably feature on the blog quite a bit, especially if I’m talking about food in London. He’s a bit like my friend Niya from Toronto: both are repositories of food-related knowledge for their respective cities (and in some cases, others!). Continue reading

Kraków, Kochający*

I have loads of photos and stories from Braunwald in my vault, but I’m going to take a detour and cover my trip to Krakow. Alicia, one of my housemates from Trois-Rivières, met me Thursday afternoon on the last leg of her month-long stay in Poland. I’m going to try to convey my impressions as best as I can, but I really suggest that if you get the chance, dear reader, that you hop on a train/plane/bus and give this place a visit. Sign above Brighton Pier.

I visited Brighton yesterday, a coastal city south of London. My travelling buddies and I were met with strong winds and the smell of the sea when we alighted from our bus, but thankfully no rain!* We visited the Brighton Pier and the Royal Pavilion before settling down for a hearty lunch. We were about halfway through our allotted time in Brighton, and I was a little worried about how we would pass another three and a half hours. The answer came as we strolled through the Lanes of Brighton: shopping. Continue reading

London: First Impressions

London Eye

London Eye

Happy One Week, London! We’ve been together for seven lovely days; it’s a pity we never met sooner.

As everyone had warned me, London is a really exciting city, with loads and loads to do. However, I was not prepared for the sheer volume of people! Being a city gal coming from the biggest city in my country, I figured I’d be moving horizontally into London life. Not so. It’s always busy here: there is no downtime at the shops, on the tube, anywhere! Continue reading
